Ars Electronica Garden AOTEAROA

Update: Due to the current lockdown restrictions, Garden Aotearoa has moved to an online only format. Our virtual event continues to be a part of the international Ars Electronica Festival from 8th till the 12th of September. We hope to host the physical Aotearoa Exhibition at the Victoria University of Wellington and the Aotearoa Concert Night at the Meow Club in Wellington at a later stage.

Garden AOTEAROA is New Zealand’s contribution to the International Ars Electronica Festival 2021. Ars Electronica is the world’s largest media festival, which is held annually in Linz, Austria. Placed at the intersection of art, technology and society, the five-day event attracts over 100,000 international visitors. Founded in 1979 the Ars Electronica Festival was designed to take the emergence of the Digital Revolution as an occasion to explore technologies and interrogate potential futures. The festival consists of symposia, exhibitions, performances, concerts and interventions spanning a broad arc from speculative futuristic scenarios to analytical considerations, from provocative actionism to philosophical debates.

For the second time, the arc/sec Lab at the University of Auckland (UoA) and the Digital Architecture Research Alliance (DARA) at the Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) are proud to contribute the Ars Electronica Garden AOTEAROA to the global Festival. Our Garden showcases projects from New Zealand’s artists, musicians, scientists and researchers in the form of prototypical installations, performances and talks.

Our Ars Electronica Garden AOTEAROA is imbedded in a network of 80 international locations and welcomes visitors to experience the projects through a series of live online events, online documentations and a virtual 3D Gallery.
